Disposal of End-of-Life Lithium-ion Batteries

In order to make better use of resources and protect the environment, the waste battery should be disposed of according to the prescribed process and method of how to dispose of the battery pack for the reference of battery production enterprises and customers.

Waste battery, generally refers to the battery is used to its life expires, or damage and cannot normally use of battery or module, because the battery contains a lot of metal non-metal, chemical substances, once abandoned in the natural environment, cause irreparable pollution to the environment, and endanger human health, is also the loss of resources and waste, so waste battery should be in accordance with the provisions of scrap process scrap disposal, process is as follows:

Disposal requirements for waste lithium-ion batteries
1. Requirements for recycling enterprises.

1. Waste battery recycling enterprises shall establish and operate the management system according to ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO 45001 and other standards.

2. waste battery recycling enterprises should establish labor protection, fire safety responsibility management system and environmental protection management system.

3. Waste battery recycling enterprises should establish safety accidents and environmental pollution prevention mechanism, and formulate the emergency plan system for dealing with safety accidents and environmental pollution accidents.

4. Waste battery recycling enterprises shall establish a waste battery recycling information management system, record the category name, characteristics, recovery time, quantity (weight), source flow and transaction of each batch of waste batteries, report statistical information and save the relevant information for at least two years.

5. In the process of recycling waste batteries, the structure and shape of the waste batteries should be maintained intact, and it is strictly prohibited to damage the waste batteries privately. The damaged waste batteries should be collected, sorted, transported and stored separately to prevent leakage, corrosion and other phenomena.

6. The hazardous waste generated or mixed in the process of recycling waste batteries, or identified as hazardous waste according to the identification standards and identification methods stipulated by the state, shall meet the relevant requirements of the technical specifications for hazardous waste collection, storage and transportation and be submitted to the units with relevant treatment qualifications for treatment.

7. Pre-job training should be conducted to carry out emergency treatment for electrolyte leakage, waste battery fire, explosion and other traffic accidents.

8. Recycling enterprises shall carry out echelon utilization in accordance with the requirements of relevant national policies and standards, and shall be applied to relevant target fields according to the requirements of battery safety and performance.

2. Requirements for scrap collection (including transport).

Each battery manufacturer shall apply the company's special process for the disposal of waste batteries, and dispose of waste batteries and raw materials respectively, and set up special collection points to standardize the management.

1. The collection of waste batteries should be carried out according to the relevant provisions in the national waste battery recycling management standards.

2. It is forbidden to remove the original code, nameplate labels and signs of the battery during the collection process.

3. in the process of transportation, different types of waste batteries should have the corresponding packaging to prevent sun exposure, mechanical wear, rain, leakage, leakage and other phenomena.

4. It is forbidden to dump and discard waste batteries without authorization during transportation.

5. waste battery transportation should be carried out according to the requirements of dangerous goods and relevant regulations.

6. The collected waste batteries shall be handed over to the comprehensive utilization enterprises with relevant qualifications stipulated by national laws and regulations.

7. Short circuit to the positive and negative poles of the waste battery is strictly prohibited.

8. It is strictly prohibited to transport or store waste batteries together with other metal objects or articles containing gold.

9. It is strictly prohibited to immerse waste batteries into sea water or water, which should be placed in a cool and dry environment.

10. Do not knock, throw or crush waste batteries.

11. It is forbidden to throw the waste battery in the fire or be placed beside the high temperature heat source.

12. In the process of collecting the waste batteries, the structure and appearance of the waste batteries should be kept intact, and it is strictly prohibited to damage the waste batteries without permission.

3. Storage requirements.

1. The temporary storage site shall have an independent centralized site and sufficient storage space, and the stock shall not exceed 10t.

2. The centralized storage site shall be located in the urban industrial plots and conform to the local environmental protection and regional development plan. The construction projects of the new centralized storage site shall pass the environmental impact assessment. The storage scale should match the capacity of the storage site, and the area of the storage site should not be less than 500m2. The storage time of waste batteries should not exceed 1 year.

3. the temporary storage site and centralized storage site should have the function of rain prevention, flood control and ground hardening, leakage prevention, pollution control should meet the relevant requirements of general industrial solid waste storage and landfill pollution control standards.

4. The storage site shall set up fire safety facilities according to the requirements, set up fire safety and warning signs according to the requirements, and clean up the used batteries regularly.

5. waste batteries should be stored in a closed or semi-closed well-ventilated environment, should not be stacked in the open air, waste batteries should be kept at a certain distance, and away from inflammable and explosive dangerous goods warehouse and high-voltage transmission line protection area.

6. The storage of waste batteries shall meet the relevant requirements of the battery waste storage and transportation specifications.

7.  Leakage of waste battery should be insulation and other protection treatment after being placed in the insulation fire, heat insulation container.

8.  Safety testing of waste carp ion battery should be carried out before storage, avoiding light storage, and the environmental temperature of the purchase and storage place should be controlled to avoid safety and environmental risks caused by high temperature spontaneous combustion.

4. Emergency case handling

1.  If the battery leaks and the electrolyte enter the eyes, please do not rub, rinse the eyes with water, and please go to the hospital immediately for treatment, if necessary, otherwise it will harm the eyes.

2.  If the battery has a fire, please keep away the fire battery and other batteries, start the fire extinguishing device and alarm.
